About Me

I am so so interested in helping my students explore all the myriad of ways we can learn together. I am a firm believer in constantly asking the question, "Why?" to really learn as much as one can. I love to climb big rocks, create artwork, read sci-fi, play RPGs, and most recently have taken an interest in archery and LARPing!

Education

My name is Anthony Magdaleno and I am currently pursuing a Master of Development Practice degree focused on international water security, health, sanitation, and agro-industrial policy. During this last semester at UCB, I have had the opportunity to pursue coursework both at the graduate level and through instruction as a GSI. My educational background has been focused on International Studies and Political Science at San Diego State University, the University of Oxford, and now UCB. At SDSU I completed a Bachelor’s Degree in a highly specialized International Security and Conflict Resolution (ISCOR) program which incorporates aspects of Political Science, Environmental Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, Geography, and Linguistics fields. My focus in the ISCOR program was on international water distribution and development in Latin America, international political theory, and human rights. In addition to my studies at SDSU, I had the great opportunity to spend a term studying at the University of Oxford’s New College, taking part in a series of international relations-focused lectures and seminars to develop a working understanding of contemporary trends, problems, and challenges. The role of US Foreign Policy in the future (in terms of the European Continent, the U.K., Russia, and China) was a primary topic that we covered along with how to think about increasing diplomatic relations and renewing historic bonds.

Teaching Experience

I have had significant teaching experience at the Undergraduate/Graduate levels as a teaching assistant and Graduate Student Instructor at San Diego State University and UC Berkeley. Additionally, as a Graduate Student counselor, I provided services to my peers through large-scale event management at campus and UC-wide levels, facilitated individual and group counseling sessions, writing workshops, and discussions. I also worked as a liaison by directing students to specialized resources to meet their individual academic and professional development needs.

Interests

I am avid rock climber and swimmer and love to spend my time out in nature doing one of the two. I am super interested in new science fiction novels, period-piece dramas, and graphic design/typography. I travel whenever I get a chance and so far I've made it to 22 countries throughout my studies and learning experiences, and can't wait to add Egypt as my next destination.

I love teaching and explaining science at every level!
